This unique partnership initiative brought forward by the city of Minneapolis brings together artists and city planners in a new program that is helping the city develop into a living work of art. Creative CityMaking is a partnership between Intermedia Arts and the City of Minneapolis that fosters collaborations between local artists and City planners to develop fresh and innovative approaches for addressing the long-term transportation, land use, economic, environmental, and social issues facing Minneapolis.
The artists and planners worked collaboratively on city planning projects within the city in 2013, including the Linden Hills Small Area Plan.

Dances at the Lakes Festival
The Christopher Watson Dance Company presents the Annual Dances at the Lakes Festival each summer at the Rose Garden at Lyndale Park. The festival features both professional and student dancers performing on a summer’s evening in the grass between the two fountains. An idyllic setting, to which audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic dinner, and enjoy an evening of dance by the lake.
The 2013 12th Annual Dances at the Lakes Festival was performed July 12 and 13. This event was made possible, in part, through sponsorship by the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council. Additional funding was provided by generous individual donors to the Christopher Watson Dance Company.
Minnesota Orchestra at Lake Harriet Bandshell
The tradition continues with the musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra performing a free community concert at Lake Harriet in September each year. In 2013, though in the midst of contract talks, the musicians performed on Sunday, September 15, drawing nearly 4,000 people.
The Orchestra performs the annual concerts as a way to express thanks for the community’s ongoing support.
