Ice Racing: A Brief History of Horse Racing on Ice on City Lakes from 1880s to 1920s
by Kathy Kullberg
What to do with your Minnesota race horse in the long winter months? Why not give them exercise and have them earn their keep, stay in fit condition, and have a bit of fun at the same time. For more than three decades, between 1888 and 1929, winter circuit racing schedules existed in the Twin Cities from late December to late March. Hear about the owners, the drivers, and the horses skimming swiftly across the ice on city lakes. Did the famous Dan Patch ever race on Lake of the Isles?

Suggested donation is $3 for non-members of LHHSG.
*Optional holiday lunch following the Ice Racing program, at the Chatterbox Pub, Linden Hills 4501 France Ave. S., Minneapolis.
