2025 Construction Updates

Over the next several months, both Metro Transit and the City of Minneapolis will resume their work in Linden Hills. Metro Transit will continue constructing E Line stations and the City of Minneapolis Public Works will continue its water main renewal project.

Metro Transit E Line Station Construction

The E Line is a planned bus rapid transit line, like the A Line and C Line, that will provide faster and more reliable transit service in the Route 6 corridor. E Line service is expected to be up and running in December 2025. See FAQs here.

This spring and summer, Metro Transit is constructing three E Line stations that will impact traffic in our neighborhood. See below for estimated station construction timelines, which could be impacted by unexpected challenges such as underground conflicts or weather events, and detour details.

44th Street & Abbott: Construction is planned to start on Monday, March 24, 2025, and last for approximately 6 weeks (early May). Traffic will be detoured as shown below.

Richfield Road & Bde Maka Ska: Construction is planned to start on Monday, March 31, 2025, and last for approximately 11 weeks (mid-June). There will not be a detour, but there will be temporary traffic lights in place to manage temporary lane restrictions.

Sheridan & 39th Street: Construction is planned to start on Monday, April 14, 2025, and last for approximately 18 weeks (late August). We will update with detour information when it becomes available.

City of Minneapolis Water Main Renewal Project

Every year, the City cleans and lines some of its water main pipes to help prevent future rust, extend the life of the pipes, and improve the look and flow of water through the pipes. Because the water main must be empty to complete the work, each building connected to the water main being worked on is given a temporary water line. The City tests the water in the temporary lines throughout the project to make sure that the water meets drinking water standards. The costs associated with this project will not be assessed to your property.

Impacted residents should have received a letter dated March 17, 2025, with more detailed information from the City of Minneapolis Public Works. This map shows the Linden Hills properties that will be affected by this year’s water main project:
