WEEKDAYS

Yoga at the Lake Harriet Bandshell at 6:30a on weekdays through Labor Day. All ages, free.


MOST DAYS

Minneapolis Music & Movies in the Parks. This free city-wide series includes 82 concerts at Lake Harriet Bandshell (Mon, Wed, Fri and Saturdays at 7:30p plus Sundays at 2p & 5:30p) and 6 movie showings within Linden Hills. For weather cancellations and other news, check the Minneapolis Music and Movies Facebook page.


WEEKLY

Tuesdays: Trivia with Trivia Mafia at Wooden Ship on Tuesdays at 6:30p.

Thursdays: Live music at Wooden Ship on Thursdays at 6:00p.

Thursdays: Adult Ceramics: Open Studio at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Thursdays from 6:15-8p. Session runs from 9/12 to 10/10. Clay, tools and glazes provided for participants. All projects will be fired at no additional cost to students. This is an open studio time with peer instruction. Ages 18+, $40 for residents, registration required.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sundays: Music on the Sidewalk outside of Everett & Charlie Gallery and Harriet Brasserie at 2720 W 43rd St. Series runs from 8/1 to 9/1. Music from 5:30-7:30p on Thu/Fri/Sat and from 11a-1p on Sun. Restaurant reservations are recommended. All musicians are kindly “busking” for tips.

Fridays: Young Rembrandts – Van Gogh Sunflowers at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Fridays from 10-11a. Session runs from 10/11 to 11/1. Explore the creative world of Van Gogh. We will use Van Gogh’s famous paintings of sunflowers as inspiration in this class led by Young Rembrandt’s talented teaching artists. Ages 55+, $65 for residents, registration required.

Sundays: Linden Hills Farmers Market in the Settergren’s parking lot, from 10a-1p through 10/27. Rain or shine.

Sundays: Sunday Dinners at Picnic, from 4-9p through the summer. Rotating pop-up dinners. No reservations – first come, first served.


SEPTEMBER

September 5: Six Bestselling Authors in one Awesome Bookstore at Comma on Thursday, 9/5 from 11a-1p. oin six bestselling authors – Sarah Stonich, Jess Lourey, Catriona McPherson, Joshua Moehling, Wendy Webb and Kristi Belcamino – for signings of their recently published books!

September 6: Cocktail Bar Pop-Up: Garden Bar! at France 44 on Friday, 9/6 from 5-8p. Our rooftop herb garden is overflowing – come help us clear it out! We’ll be serving a variety of cocktails infused with herbs from our garden and utilizing some of the fresh produce. See event page for more information.

September 7: Fall Migration Guided Bird Walks in the Roberts Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, 9/7 from 8-10a. All are welcome to join Friends of Roberts to look and listen for migrating birds in the Sanctuary. Meet in the visitors shelter at the east entrance, adjacent to the Peace Garden parking lot.

September 7: Comma’s Body, Mind, and Spirit Book Club. This book club reads and reflects on books that touch on our mental, physical, spiritual, and social health. This meeting is discussing Falling Back in Love with Being Human: Letters to Lost Souls by Kai Cheng Thom on Saturday, 9/7 at 9a.

September 8: Music in the Chapel: 10th Wave at the Lakewood Chapel on Sunday, 9/8 from 3-4p. 10th Wave is a 501c(3) musician-led ensemble that collaborates with living, local and/or underrepresented artists to perform high-quality programming and connect with the Minneapolis-St. Paul community. Tickets $15 in advance.

September 8: Sunday Dinner: Nikki & Brian of The Salsa Collaborative Present Cambodia at Picnic on Sunday, 9/8 from 4-9p. If you think that all they do are incredible burgers and hot sauces, think again. This Sunday will be a deeply personal menu to chef Nikki inspired by her Cambodian heritage and cuisine passed on from generation to generation. No reservations – first come, first served.

September 9: Conversation and Connect at the Linden Hills Library on Monday, 9/9 from 9:30-11:30a. Join your neighbors for a conversation and coffee while browsing items from Hennepin County Library Special Collections featuring the community’s past. Topics include aerial photos of Minneapolis in the 1920s/30s, downtown department stores, seeds and gardens, and Linden Hills then and now.

September 10: Exploring Grief and Legacy Through Art at Lakewood Welcome Center on Tuesday, 9/10 from 4:30-6p. Join host Nina Guertin for an interactive artistic workshop designed to help you reflect on grief, loss, and legacy. Tickets $10 in advance.

September 12: Social Media Strategy: Content and Conversation at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 9/12 from 6-7:30p. In collaboration with The Loft Literary Center. Assess your business or personal social media strategy and explore what social media tools to consider, when and how often to post, which content to share, and who can help create and extend conversations. Learn how to analyze your results, diffuse your critics, and amplify your strongest advocates. Free; registration required.

September 12: Who Lived Here? Longtime Linden Hills Residents and their Homes with the Linden Hills History Study Group on Thursday, 9/12 from 7-9p at St. John’s Episcopal Church (4201 Sheridan Ave S). Through memories, research, and photographs, descendants of four families who put down roots in different parts of Linden Hills will compare and contrast their personal experiences and those of their forebears, building homes and navigating events of the Twentieth Century. September 13: Simply Overdressed at Linden Hills Park on Friday, 9/13 at 6p. Great mix of family-friendly music from the original duo. Shows feature thematic material and insights from the duo into the music they love so much! All ages, free.

September 13: American Sign Language Social on the Trolley on Friday, 9/13 from 6-8p. Free trolley rides narrated in ASL. At 7p, a carbarn tour will also be interpreted in ASL. Join your friends – all are welcome. Made possible by the Minnesota Streetcar Museum and People for Parks.

September 15: Linden Hills’ Centered Wealth is co-presenting a Women’s Financial Empowerment & Impact Investing Brunch in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday, 9/15 from 10a to 3p. Focuses on the impact investing and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies. Registration required, $49.

September 15: Rock the Sunnyside Garden on Sunday 9/15 from 2-5p. Enjoy live music from The Disappointments, grab some dinner and drinks and browse the garden center. Free to join; drinks and food available for purchase.

September 15: Comma’s Fiction Book Club. Read and discuss a variety of fiction books. This meeting is discussing Bear by Julia Phillips on Sunday, 9/15 at 4p.

September 15: Sunday Dinner: Sushi by Baaska Pop-Up at Picnic on Sunday, 9/15 from 4-9p. Baaska will be slinging the world’s top tier fish, a la carte. Your Picnic team will have sake and beverage pairings. No reservations – first come, first served.

September 18: Wine Night: New France (Spain) at Picnic on Wednesday, 9/18 from 5-8p.

September 19: Linden Hills Book Club at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 9/17 from 7-8p. This month’s book is The Pioneers: The Historic Story of the Settlers Who Brought the American Ideal West by David G. McCullough. Online registration required.

September 20-21: Lakewood’s 10th Annual Lantern Lighting Celebration on Friday 9/20 and Saturday 9/21 from 5-8:30p. An evening for all to gather with family, friends and community to honor and remember those we love and miss. Admission is free, lanterns are $10 in advance.

September 22: Sunday Dinner: Mike Yuen & Tony Gao at Picnic on Sunday, 9/22 from 4-9p. No reservations – first come, first served.

September 22: The Joy You Make: Steven Petrow in conversation with Emma Nadler at Comma from 5:30-7p on Sunday, 9/22. In The Joy You Make, Petrow explores the many expressions of joy and shows readers how to find, cultivate, and share it.

September 23: Craft and Listen at the Linden Hills Library on Monday, 9/23 from 9:30-11:30a. Join your neighbors for a morning of crafting and conversation while listening to a variety of audio short stories. Bring a craft to work on while you listen and chat. No registration required.

September 23: Fall Equinox Tea Ceremony and Grief Circle on Monday, 9/23 from 4:30-6p at the Lakewood Chapel. Explore the meditative and peaceful properties of the historic tradition of tea rituals. This powerful experience will allow time for reflection and contemplation on grief and loss. Tickets $30 in advance.

September 23: District 6 MPS School Board Candidate Forum on Monday, 9/23 from 6-8p at the Meraki Building (100 West 46th Street). LHiNC has partnered with seven other neighborhood associations to plan this forum for neighbors to meet Lara Bergman and Greta Callahan – the two candidates running to represent District 6 on the MPS School Board. Learn about their positions on issues, in order to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

September 25: Wine Night: Libation Project at Picnic on Wednesday, 9/25 from 5-8p.

September 26: Brothers: A Conversation with Authors Bruce Richardson and Raymond Wilson at Comma on Thursday, 9/26 from 6-7:30p.

September 26: Introduction to Watercolors at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 9/26 from 6-8p. In collaboration with Parcel Arts. Harness the gorgeous depths of watercolor painting! Learn about different watercolor supplies, how to mix colors, and different wet and dry techniques including layering, blending, and more. Materials provided. Adults, free, registration required.

September 28: Buckthorn Pull at William Berry Woods on Saturday, 9/28 from 9a-12p. Wear layers and eye protection (glasses or goggles); bring gloves and drinking water. Tools and training will be provided. Look for signs to the pull site near Richfield Rd & 40th.

September 28: Environmental Justice Bus Tour on Saturday, 9/28 from 10a-1p. Learn from community members most impacted by pollution. Limited seats are available, reserve your spot on the bus for $25. More information coming about how to reserve your seat.

September 29: Civil War Headstone Dedication Ceremony at Lakewood on Sunday, 9/29 from 2-3:30p. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), Colonel Colvill Camp 56 is hosting a special ceremony to dedicate over 50 new footstones for Civil War Soldiers who have been in unmarked graves for decades. All are welcome to join for this ceremony, which is followed by a tour. Free.

September 29: Sunday Dinner: Rhett & Emily Present Bar Sienna at Picnic on Sunday, 9/29 from 4-9p. Join Rhett and Emily Roberts of Bar Siena, a new family-owned Italian-American concept opening this fall in downtown Hopkins, for an evening of handmade pastas and scratch Italian cuisine. No reservations – first come, first served.


OCTOBER

October 6: Music in the Chapel: Amanda Grace + Friends at Lakewood Chapel on Sunday, 10/6 from 3-4. Amanda is a Minnesota native and has released music drifting between folk and alt-pop/rock. Tickets $20 in advance.

October 7: Conversation and Connect at the Linden Hills Library on Monday, 10/7 from 9:30-11:30a. October 10: Social Media Voice: Finding Authenticity at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 10/10 from 6-7:30p. Through case studies, exercises, and examples, explore what kinds of voices an organization might take on, and how to go about determining the best fit for yours.

October 11: What is Cultural Bereavement? at Lakewood on Friday, 10/11 from 6:30-8p. Explore the topic of cultural bereavement – the experience of loss and grief for (im)migrant and refugee individuals and families. Free.

October 12: A Path for Reflection: Labyrinth Workshop at Lakewood on Saturday, 10/12 from 5:30-7p. Embark on this journey of self-discovery and communal connection as we explore the depths of the labyrinth together, from creation to contemplation. Tickets $30 in advance.

October 12 & 13: Take the Trolley to Farmer Ken and Jan’s Pumpkin Patch on Saturday and Sunday from 12:30-4p. Take a trolley ride and bring home a Halloween pumpkin. Riders get off the car at the “pumpkin patch” where they can search for just the right pumpkin. Streetcars make frequent trips to the pumpkin patch. There are no advance tickets or reservations. Regular fares apply; pumpkins are $7 while supplies last.

October 15: Lakewood Book Club: The Milk Hours by John James at Lakewood on Tuesday, 10/15 from 5:30-7p. This month’s book is the author’s debut poetry collection about loss, the intimacy of art and dreams, and the vulnerable space of new life. Free, registration is requested.

October 17: Linden Hills Book Club at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 10/17 from 7-8p. This month’s book is Afterlife by Julia Alvarez. Online registration required.

October 17: The Grand Meadow Chert Quarry: A Significant New Indigenous Site with the Linden Hills History Study Group on Thursday, 10/17 from 7-9p. Speaking event with Tom Trow, who is the lead archaeologist for the effort to open to the public a long-hidden archaeological and cultural site in Mower County, MN. October 18: Graveyard Ghost Stories on the Trolley on Friday, 10/18 at 8:30p. What’s better than a spooky story? Three spooky stories, in the dark, by a cemetery, on a one hundred-year-old trolley. Hear classic tales of the beyond read by Twin Cities celebrities. It’s the literary event of the season! One night only! One show only! Don’t miss out! Tickets required and available online: $23 per ticket.

October 19: Transylvania Trolley on Saturday, 10/19 from 12:30-4p. Count Karl the Vampire Motorman is your host for this Halloween trip. Not scary ― just silly. Wear a costume and get a treat. The ride is about 15 minutes and no advance ticket or reservation is required. Regular fares apply.

October 20: Fall Colors Celebration at Lakewood on Sunday, 10/20 from 10a-2p. Join us on the open grassy grounds of Lakewood for art activities, music, cookies and hot apple cider, and more! This open-house style event is free and open to all! No registration is required.

October 24: Visible Mending Sampler at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 10/24 from 6-7:30p. Extend the life of your favorite worn-out, scuffed, or stained clothing pieces by mastering mending techniques that will keep your wearables out of the landfill and in your closet. It doesn’t hurt that they’re decorative, too!

October 25: The Late Show on the Trolley on Friday, 10/25 at 7p & 8:30p. Why should kids have all the Halloween fun? A not-so-serious look at little-known chapters in streetcar history — with something slightly off. What could go wrong? This experience is not recommended for children or the humor-impaired. Tickets required and available online: $15 per ticket.

October 26: Streetcar Named Expire on the Trolley on Saturday, 10/26 from 7-10p. Travel through the dark forest aboard a spooky trolley. What fate awaits those foolish enough to ride to the end of the line? This event is suitable for most family members ― there’s no blood or gore ― but may be frightening for the very young. And the later it gets, the more frightening the ride becomes. There are no advance tickets or reservations. $5 fare or you can purchase a $12 Fright Pass for unlimited rides throughout the evening.

October 30: Walking Tour at Lakewood on Wednesday, 10/30 at 4p & 5:30p. Explore the beauty of Lakewood on this free evening walking tour. Join our tour guides on an informational and fun journey through our oldest section and buildings as we share information on Lakewood’s history, our notable residents, and more! Free, registration required.

October 31: All Aboard Trick ‘r Treat on the Trolley on Thursday, 10/31 from 4-7p. A special time for neurodiverse folks, families, and friends. Regular fares apply.

October 31: Spirits on a Streetcar on Thursday, 10/31 at 11p. Take a ride with seasoned paranormal investigators on the historic Minneapolis trolley this Halloween and see if there are any spirits who join us! We’ll be using real investigation equipment to identify any possible paranormal activity on this historic streetcar during the time of year when the veil between worlds is the thinnest. Tickets required and available online soon: $50 per ticket.
