Linden Hills Littles Fall Calendar 2024

Looking to keep your kids busy this fall? Here are activities in Linden Hills that are still enrolling (as of 8/30) or don’t require pre-registration. Email additional suggestions to newsletter@lindenhills.org.


WEEKLY

Mondays: Ballet, Tap, & Creative Movement at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Mondays at 5:45p. Registration still open for ages 5-9. Session runs 9/9 to 10/28. $72 for residents, registration required.

Tuesdays: Weekly Story Time with Wild Rumpus on Tuesdays at 10:30a. Primarily geared towards toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Wednesdays: Family Storytime at Linden Hills Library on Wednesdays at 10a & 11a. Talk, sing, read, write and play together. Share books, stories, rhymes, music and movement. For children of all ages and their caregivers, no registration required.

Thursdays: Family Ceramics: Open Studio at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Thursdays from 4:30-6p. Session runs from 9/12 to 10/10. Parents and their children can use their creativity in clay. Clay, tools and glazes provided for participants. All projects will be fired at no additional cost to students. Adults can come without children as well. This is an open studio time with peer instruction. Ages 6+, $40 for residents, registration required.

Fridays: Baby Storytime at Linden Hills Library on Fridays at 10a & 11a. Share books, stories, rhymes, music and movement in a format especially designed for babies. For children from birth to 24 months.

Fridays: Indoor Playground at the Linden Hills Recreation Center on Fridays from 10-11:30a. Runs 10/11 through 12/20. Playtime is a convenient way for young ones to burn off energy, socialize and develop motor skills. It’s fun, unstructured play and a total sanity-saver. Parental supervision is required. For children 5 and under.


OCTOBER

October 1: Writing Great College Application Essays at the Linden Hills Library on Tuesday, 10/1 from 6-7:30p. Use basic creative writing craft elements such as strong characterization, compelling narrative structure, and an interesting premise to write great college application essays. Leave with ideas that will get you started on writing an essay to wow your readers! Registration required.

October 4: Dinner and a Movie at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Friday, 10/4 from 6-8:30p. Take a break, kick your feet up and watch a PG movie with fellow movie fans. Reserve your spot for a pizza, popcorn and the latest movie. Ages 6-12, $10 for residents, registration required.

October 5: Juliana Brandt ‘Exit Nowhere’ in Spooky Conversation with Madeline McGrane at Wild Rumpus on Saturday, 10/5 from 10:30-11:15a! Author Juliana Brandt is coming to Wild Rumpus to celebrate the release of her eerie middle grade novel, ‘Exit Nowhere’! This event is free and open to the public. Seating will be available on a first-come first-served basis.

October 12 & 13: Take the Trolley to Farmer Ken and Jan’s Pumpkin Patch on Saturday and Sunday from 12:30-4p. Take a trolley ride and bring home a Halloween pumpkin. Riders get off the car at the “pumpkin patch” where they can search for just the right pumpkin. Streetcars make frequent trips to the pumpkin patch. There are no advance tickets or reservations. Regular fares apply; pumpkins are $7 while supplies last.

October 18: Dinner and a Movie at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Friday, 10/18 from 6-8:30p. Take a break, kick your feet up and watch a PG movie with fellow movie fans. Reserve your spot for a pizza, popcorn and the latest movie. Ages 6-12, $10 for residents, registration required

October 19: Transylvania Trolley on Saturday, 10/19 from 12:30-4p. Count Karl the Vampire Motorman is your host for this Halloween trip. Not scary ― just silly. Wear a costume and get a treat. The ride is about 15 minutes and no advance ticket or reservation is required. Regular fares apply.

October 24: Preschool Pumpkin Festival at Heartfelt on Thursday, 10/24 from 10:30a-12p. Instead of traditional Jack-o-Lanterns, we will carve pumpkins into houses, and make little gnomes to live inside. Space is limited; please register in advance by calling 612-877-8090; $28 for each child with an adult, $14 for each additional child per family. For children aged 2.5+ with an adult; all ages are welcome.

October 24: Oliver Jeffers ‘Where to Hide a Star’ Ticketed Event at Wild Rumpus on Thursday, 10/24 from 6-8p! Internationally bestselling artist and author Oliver Jeffers celebrates 20 years of picture book making with the release of ‘Where to Hide a Star’, a new picture book about the magic of friendship featuring beloved characters Boy and Penguin. This is a ticketed/book-bundled event that includes a story time reading, Q&A, and book signing.

October 25: Family Halloween Party at Southwest High School on Friday, 10/25 from 6:30-9p. Put on your most friendly costume and join us for our annual Family Halloween Party at Southwest. Activities include carnival games, a raffle for door prizes, a bingo hall, magic shows, puppet shows, dinner concessions, treats and prizes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. A food shelf donation is accepted at the door. $3 per person.

October 26: Halloween at the Hills at Linden Hills Park on Saturday, 10/26 from 3-5p. Annual Halloween party in a fun and safe environment, perfect for the whole family. Hayrides, DJ dance party and treats will be part of the fun! Free, no pre-registration required.

October 26: Streetcar Named Expire on the Trolley on Saturday, 10/26 from 7-10p. Travel through the dark forest aboard a spooky trolley. What fate awaits those foolish enough to ride to the end of the line? This event is suitable for most family members ― there’s no blood or gore ― but may be frightening for the very young. And the later it gets, the more frightening the ride becomes. There are no advance tickets or reservations. $5 fare or you can purchase a $12 Fright Pass for unlimited rides throughout the evening.

October 27: Fall Pancake Breakfast at Lake Harriet Masonic Hall on Sunday, 10/27 from 8a-1p. This is an all-you-can-eat charity breakfast, featuring pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, and sausage. This event supports the following community partners: Lake Harriet Community Schools PTO, Joyce Uptown Foodshelf, and Edina Public Schools Blood Glucose Monitoring Program. Purchase tickets in advance here ($10 each or $5 for children ages 6-12).

October 27: Last day of the Linden Hills Farmers Market on Sunday, 10/27 from 10a-1p. The market is in the parking lot of Settergren’s of Linden Hills. Embrace the spooky spirit and wear costumes as an early Halloween celebration!

October 27: Trick ‘r Trolley on Sunday, 10/27 at 1p, 2p, & 3p. It’s the Son of PJ Party! Wear your Halloween costume and come for a ride, a story, and a treat. This is a very popular event and typically sells out. The PJ Party is presented in partnership with Wild Rumpus Books. Tickets required and will go on sale 10/1.

October 31: Spooky Stories at the Linden Hills Library on Thursday, 10/31 from 4-7p. For children of all ages and their caregivers. Stop in for a few minutes throughout the evening to hear short, spooky stories read by library staff.

October 31: All Aboard Trick ‘r Treat on the Trolley on Thursday, 10/31 from 4-7p. A special time for neurodiverse folks, families, and friends. Regular fares apply.


NOVEMBER

November 2: Leaf Art at the Linden Hills Library on Saturday, 11/2 from 10-11:30a. Learn about forest ecosystems and how to identify leaves with a naturalist/artist. Then create a beautiful leaf design inspired by the leaves from common Minnesota trees. Materials provided. In collaboration with ArtStart. Grades 1-5, free, registration required.

November 15: Dinner and a Movie at the Linden Hills Rec Center on Friday, 11/15 from 6-8:30p. Take a break, kick your feet up and watch a PG movie with fellow movie fans. Reserve your spot for a pizza, popcorn and the latest movie. Ages 6-12, $10 for residents, registration required.

November 27: Preschool Thankful Festival at Heartfelt on Wednesday, 11/27 from 10:30a-12p. Prepare for the coming feast making a seasonal centerpiece. We will make cute little turkeys too. Space is limited; please register in advance by calling 612-877-8090; $28 for each child with an adult, $14 for each additional child per family. For children aged 2.5+ with an adult; all ages are welcome.
